Porsche, the German sports car giant has challenged the US electric car maker, Tesla in the luxury electric car horizon. Porsche is owned by Volkswagen, makers of other brands like Audi, Bentley, Bugatti and Lamborghini and prides itself as the future sports car. 

The all-electric Porsche Mission E features the following:


  • Acceleration 0-100 km/h or 62 mph in less than 3.5 seconds
  • Top speed of over 250 km/h or 155 mph
  • Power greater than 440 kW or 600 hp
  • Full charge driving range of 500 km or 310 miles 
  • System voltage of 800V
  • Attains 80% battery charge in less than 15 minutes

How does this beat the Tesla's Model S? A few reasons...


  • Tesla's Model S takes double the time to reach the same 80% battery charge
  • Tesla's Model S has a driving range of 170 miles or 273 km from a 30 minutes charge compared to Porsche Mission E's 250 miles  or 402 km in from a 15 minute charge
  • Inductive charging - Porsche Mission E can be charged wirelessly

Another cool fact about the Porsche Mission E is that there are no exterior mirrors but you will get replacement virtual side mirrors that project camera images on screens in the lower windshield corners. This technology will also increase safety information through active display. 

Since Porsche Mission E is set to be rolled out in about 5 years, can Tesla close the gap and tighten up during this period?
