Innovative Medical Device for Fixing Holes in the Heart

medical catheterization heart cardiac

Good news for humanity! A non-invasive medical device has been developed by researchers from Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard University and Karp Lab at Brigham & Women's Hospital.

The ground-breaking medical device is a specialized catheter that uses biodegradable adhesives and patch for fixing holes in the heart.  The patch is placed in a beating heart using the novel catheter device and UV light technology.

What makes this awesome?

  • Open heart surgery that requires stopping the heart , putting the patient on bypass, and cutting into the heart will no longer be required.
  • This cardiac catheterization will reduce complications associated with heart defect repair
  • The biodegradable patch allows for heart tissue to form its own closure and then dissolves afterwards.
